Hackintosh Mojave 10.14.3 Update Guide

The Mojave 10.14.3 update is the third major update for macOS Mojave and is recommended by Apple for “All” users containing the standard security, stability, performance improvements per the release notes.

This update improves the security, stability, and compatibility of your Mac and includes the following enterprise content: When making a file-sharing connection that uses a valid Kerberos TGT to authenticate, users are no longer prompted to enter credentials.

10.14.3 Update Quick Notes:

Hackintosh 10.14.3 Install Overview

Installing 10.14.3 was super smooth for me with no hiccups installing even on a Z390/i7/Vega64 Build which doesn’t have native support yet.

Clover should handle the update automatically after rebooting, if not when the computer requests a reboot after installing in the app store you will have to manually select: Install macOS from “drive_name” to complete the update in Clover EFI Menu on boot.

Nvidia Graphics: Nvidia Drivers still aren’t available for macOS Mojave, however Nvidia has stated they’re working with Apple to make that happen, but that could take months.

Graphics Injection: if your coming from  an earlier version such as 10.14.0 or Mojave Beta its super important you adapt the new version graphics is handled in clover by setting the proper property values and no longer using Inject Intel. I have some examples provided in Step 3.1 of the Mojave Desktop Guide for different setups. If not set properly as an example their could be super slow login times along with slowdown in apps reopening with Intel Graphics or  if using AMD graphics they could boot to a black screen, both situations can be avoided by setting ig-platform-id properly in both places and updating graphical related kexts.

Final Cut Pro X: FCPX rendering performance may be poor when using integrated graphics in 10.14.3 without a graphics card when compared to 10.14.2. Performance is unaffected on AMD graphic cards. I’m not sure what the problem is as of yet. If you don’t have a dedicated graphics card its recommended to hold off on updating until a solution is found.

Make sure your using the latest versions of these kexts:

Download Mojave 10.14.3 (Build 18D42)

The latest update of Mojave can be downloaded from the App Store by going to the Mojave page or through Software Update in System Preferences.

Note: If you have trouble updating with the above method you can alternatively update by downloading and running the .dmg version of the update from Apple’s support page:

10.14.3 .dmg version:

Hackintosh 10.14.3 USB Patch

High Sierra 10.14.3 uses the same USB patch from 10.14.1 to get all USB/USB3 ports recognized and working. You will also need USBInjectAll.kext if you don’t already have it. However for proper USB 3 speeds you may need to create your own SSDT  with Mojave 10.14.1+

  1. Mount EFI Partition with Clover Configurator
  2. Navigate to /Volumes/EFI/EFI/Clover/
  3. Right-click open config.plist with Clover Configurator
  4. Click Kernel and Kext Patches under SECTIONS of Clover Configurator
  5. Click the “+” button near the bottom to add this patch:
    • Name*: com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBXHCI
    • Find* [HEX]:83FB0F0F 83030400 00
    • Replace* [HEX]: 83FB0F90 90909090 90
    • Comment: USB 10.14.1+ by PMHeart
    • MatchOS: 10.14.x
  6. Save config.plist
  7. Download the latest release of Lilu.kext
  8. Paste Lilu.kext into /Volumes/EFI/EFI/Clover/kexts/Other

Clover Hackintosh 10.14.1 USB Patch

Note: If having your having trouble with 10.14.3 here’s the folder I’m currently using from 10.14.2: Hackintosher-Mojave-10.14.2-EFI.zip

Thank you very much for your easy Hackintosh tutorials.
I’m planning to perform a clean install of 10.14.3 so I have 2 questions:
I understand that I can use your preconfigured 10.14.2 EFI for 10.14.3 and I noticed that you have added Whatevergreen.kext. My question is will my RX 580 work without it in 10.14.3?
Because I remember it worked without it in 10.14.1. (I don’t need HDMI audio)
Also, is it still impossible to install MacOS on a partition that was formatted to APFS before installation?

Acceleration at least for iGPU is broken in 10.14.3.
I’m not saying the usual configuration doesn’t work.
It does BUT it needs to be dug deeper.
It’s the speed that has become Zombie.
BruceX takes about 50/60 sec to complete with iGPU. Not it takes 8 minutes.
Any app that uses acceleration, an example would be Pixelmator Pro, now has become Zombie.
I have tested this with 3 systems. The exact same EFI folder has the usual performance in 10.14.2 but the moment you upgrade to 10.14-3 it gets zombie.
No, it’s not about the config being wrong.
Please check this with a chronograph checking FCPX render times.
Thanks.

Hi. I’m usually running into issues when I upgrade because I’m not sure about the sequence. Can you maybe tell me about this:
1. I’m on 10.14.0 and I’ve downloaded the Combo update. I want to run it straight from my machine as you would if you upgrade from the app store.
2. Do I first update clover and the EFI with the new kexts before running the OS update?
3. If so, how do I update clover on my machine?

Will appreciate any advice.

10.14.3 USB patch not working on Z370 Aorus Ultra Gaming. Info shows:
– USB 3.0 Bus for USB2.0 back ports (2x)
– USB 3.1 Bus for USB3.1 back port
– 2 USB 3.0 back ports are not detected
– 2 USB 3.0 front ports are not detected
Is there a conflict and / or should I remove the rest of / some of the entries:
AppleAHCIPort
AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy
com.apple.driver.AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy

Thanks for the guidance….

My Hackintosh is returning from sleep to a dark screen after 10.14.3 upgrade. Was working flawlessly with 10.14.2. Using Vega 56. Any idea how to solve this?

Ok, removing “AAPL,ig-platform-id” from Devices solved my problem.

Is there a place where we can find your exact Z390/i7/Vega64 build? This is my dream build except maybe smaller with a mini-ITX and Vega56…thanks

When I try to do the update, upon reboot, clover wants to select the install preboot option, when normally it will boot from the ssd its on.

Is that what you were referring to when you said clover should handle the update automatically after reboot?

Hello, few weeks ago I bought a defective Mac mini (mid 2011) with the infamous AMD gpu and finally the seller has accepted that he didn’t check the machine properly before sell it. After this bad experience and the lack of cash to buy a brand new mini, I plan to build my own hackintosh as soon as I get my money back. Many years ago I build a powerful one with an i5-2500k, and I even could manage to install Snow Leopard on my Asus EEE PC just for fun, but things have changed a lot since then… I hope to success following your 400$ hackintosh guide. I’m going to use FCPX (short 720 and 1080p videos, nothing too demanding), thank you for letting us know about those peformance issues while rendering with this update. Thank you, your website is very useful.

I also had a 2011 mini but with integrated graphics. When it didn’t support Mojave, I didn’t want a 2014 mini and this was just before the 2018 mini was announced. So I built a hackintosh with a quad i5 and an Nvidia 730 (works out of box) and I have a very fast machine. I then sold my mini for more than it cost to build this system.

Quick question, on an i7 4790 (HD 4600) + GTX 770 will I be able to use the video outputs on both cards? I happen to have 3 monitors connected to the 770 and 1 connected to the 4600.
